BioDuro Appoints Greg Makara as Senior Vice President Lead Discovery Chemistry to Strengthen Early Drug Discovery Capabilities

Appointment supports BioDuro’s continued efforts to build a more integrated, data-driven drug discovery platform

IRVINE, Calif. — October 1, 2026 — BioDuro, a global integrated contract research, development and manufacturing organization (CRDMO), today announced the appointment of Greg Makara, Ph.D., as Senior Vice President Lead Discovery Chemistry. In this role, Dr. Makara will lead the expansion of BioDuro’s computational chemistry, AI, and lead discovery capabilities and further integrate computational approaches into the company’s early-phase drug discovery platform.

Dr. Makara brings more than two decades of experience in drug discovery and chemistry leadership across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and technology companies with experience spanning library development, hit-to-lead and lead optimization, computer-aided drug discovery and AI-assisted drug discovery. He was the founder and CEO of ChemPass and previously served as CEO and CTO of ComInnex, Inc., where he co-founded the company’s chemistry service business. Earlier in his career, he served as the Site Head of AMRI Hungary, led Merck and Co’s Target Validation Chemistry group in Rahway where he developed its fragment-based lead discovery platform that was successfully applied to lead discovery projects, and worked as a Director at Neogenesis Pharmaceuticals where he participated in the development and successful application of the company’ ASMS screening technology ALIS to lead identification and optimization.

The appointment is part of BioDuro’s continued efforts to strengthen its early-phase drug discovery and medicinal chemistry capabilities and integrate modern computational approaches more deeply across its discovery platform. In his new role, Dr. Makara will work across the company’s discovery organization to support lead discovery projects and expand the application of computational approaches, including molecular modeling, structure-based drug design, fragment-based discovery, virtual screening, molecular design, and compound prioritization. These capabilities will complement BioDuro’s experimental chemistry, biology, and DMPK expertise to help clients accelerate hit identification, lead generation, and optimization while making more informed decisions throughout early drug discovery.

“This appointment builds on BioDuro’s broader efforts to incorporate AI and advanced computational tools into our drug discovery services,” said Dr. Armin Spura, CEO of BioDuro. “Greg brings deep experience across computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and early-stage drug discovery. His expertise will help us further strengthen our integrated discovery platform and provide clients with more powerful, data-driven approaches to advance their programs.”

“BioDuro has built a strong foundation in chemistry, biology, DMPK, and integrated drug discovery, and I am excited to help further connect these capabilities with computational and medicinal chemistry,” said Dr. Greg Makara, Senior Vice President Lead Discovery Chemistry, BioDuro. “The combination of computational and experimental approaches can create a more efficient and informed discovery process. I look forward to working with BioDuro’s scientists and clients to apply these approaches to challenging drug discovery programs and accelerate the path from hits to optimized leads.”
